MODOS NOVOS
My new project with my friend is singing Kiko Pereira:
KiMiKus
KiMiKus is the new jazz project that combines the resonant sounds of Prof. Mikelius (double bass player Miguel Ângelo) with vocals by the enigmatic Dr. K (singer Kiko Pereira).
The duo presents their debut album “Modus Novos”, which promises to be a sublime collection of poetic compositions, illustrated with a mini story in the form of a comic strip created with photos by Anabela Trindade and drawings by Yasmin Machado.

DANÇA DOS DESASTRADOS
After released “BRANCO", the group´s debut album, in 2013, and the album “A VIDA DE X”, in 2016, Quarteto, led by bassist and composer Miguel Ângelo, now promotes the third work of the quartet - “DANÇA DOS DESASTRADOS”.
Based on possible Traditional Dances, real or imagined, this is the proposal of the music group to listen, feel and dance, even for the most “clumsy”.
About the digital project
The arts complement each other, intersect, run over each other and in conjunction allow for new achievements and realities. For this reason, the double bassist and composer, who is also a computer programmer, allied himself with the graphic artist Maria Mónica, author of the album´s cover and, from the music and cover of the album, created a new digital “autonomous” world, game, landscape and / or virtual reality so that music, design and technology enhance the sensory experience of the listener / interlocutor (a).

MAZAM (2020)
In his most recent original project, Mortágua explores the characteristics of the quartet with piano, joining an emblematic rhythmic section, in favor of a fresh and refined product. Without filters, you cry the sorrow of the seaside and laugh in the face of joy on the mountain. This space is made of everything and nothing. It is not, MAZAM.

«SEM MUROS NEM AMEIAS»
Interview by António Branco @ Jazz.pt
The bassist and composer Miguel Ângelo returned to the albums in his own name with a new project, MAU - Miguel Ângelo Utopia. In this work, and starting from the great work of Englishman Thomas More, the musician assumes an attitude of intervention and counterpoint in the face of the current political panorama. In a long conversation, jazz.pt wanted to know what is on your mind. (by António Branco).

I THINK I´M GOING TO EAT DESSERT
Miguel Ângelo Solo (out 2017)
Creative Sources Records
I think I´m going to eat dessert refers to that moment after the main course, in which we have to decide whether to eat that additional dish which, although it is dispensable in nutritional terms, it is justified only by the pleasure of satisfying our need for sugar or additional taste sensations. This album is a bit of this, they are mostly moments of pure improvisation, unrepeatable, which, for me, make musical and emotional sense.
A VIDA DE X
Miguel Ângelo Quartet
"A VIDA DE X" consists of ten compositions inspired by fictional characters or imaginary or real stories that the quartet gave life and hopes that each listener create his own vision and this way, X gets a new life.
Besides music, the CD contains a book with an illustration by theme. The illustrations are by Maria Mónica (5:10), José Rui Coelho (2, 3, 6 and 9) and Inês Coelho (1, 4, 7 and 8).
"A VIDA DE X" is not a simple life is a tangle of them! ...

Nice December!
December is generally pretty, for those who enjoy the spirit of Christmas, or just party, hugs and kisses. This year will be even better to me.
December will be released a record that I am very proud. A beautiful trio like someone I know says "the best trio of street moreira" ... a trio with the pianist and friend Pedro Neves and Leandro Leonet on drums... it's gonna be beautiful. The 7 release from Carimbo porta-Jazz

KiMiKus
Get ready to embark on a captivating musical journey with KiMiKus, a dynamic jazz duo that blends the resonant sounds of Prof. Mikelius (Miguel Ângelo) mesmerizing double bass with the vocals of the enigmatic Dr. K (Kiko Pereira).
With their musical interactions and innovative approach, KiMiKus is pushing the boundaries of contemporary jazz, drawing inspiration from various musical influences. Their compositions are an intriguing fusion of classic jazz elements infused with contemporary textures, experimental indie, pop, and spoken word.
Miguel Ângelo´s mastery of the double bass is inspiring. With intricate melodies, deep bass lines, and extraordinary improvisational skills, he weaves a musical matrix that forms the backbone of every KiMiKus performance. His art adds depth and complexity to the duo´s sound, captivating the audience with each nuanced note.
Complementing Miguel´s instrumental prowess is Kiko Pereira´s velvety voice. Possessing a remarkable vocal range and a commanding stage presence, Kiko effortlessly conveys the deep emotions embedded in his lyrics that explore the complexities of life, the passage of time, and everyday stories, offering a unique perspective that invites introspection.
Luis Ribeiro 6tet
In a moment nothing. In the other everything. All possibilities, all journeys, all versions of reality.
In a moment of silence. In the other song.
The initial premise of this work was the moment of the first step.
Is the first note correct? Is the first story true? Is the first improvisation fair?
Doubts that disappear immediately because the songs emancipate themselves. They grow quickly and escape our control. A control that never exists.
This work was written in two weeks at the beginning of the pandemic, at a time when the world stopped and I walked. It is the result of my partnership with five majestic musicians who
who shared my vision and who shone it with their light. It is the result of late nights, stages, conversations, a life steeped in music.
One moment a blank page. In the other a drop of paint fell.",

In his most recent original project, saxophonist João Mortágua explores the sound of the piano quartet, joining an emblematic rhythmic section for a fresh and refined product.
Without filters, one weeps at the hurt at the seaside and laughs at the joy on the mountain. Everything and nothing is made this patrol space.
With a disc in their pocket, to be released later this year, this group gravitates between improvisations and some of the saxophonist´s latest compositions.

MAU (Miguel Ângelo Utopia)
MAU is the new project led by bass player Miguel Ângelo.
MAU members are:
Miguel Ângelo - Double bass and composition
Miguel Moreira - Guitars
Mario Costa - Drums
Utopia, the island idealized by Thomas More, where social and political perfection was attained, served as a philosophical motto to the creation of this group, that is, creative freedom and individuality combined and functioning in a utopian, perfect way, as it was idealized on the island of Thomas More. This is the goal!
The trio focuses their attention on music, whether improvised or even when the fallow part of a score written in a conventional way, MAU always assumes that everything is possible and that, who defines the rules, it is always the music and the aesthetic concept of each of the elements of the trio.

Miguel Ângelo Solo
A new adventure begins. If in the two previous projects we had Miguel Ângelo as leader in a Quartet that gave life and expression to his original works in a frank, well defined and intense way, in this project we see him venturing solo, accompanied by the faithful doublebass.
Making music is an act of daring, it even becomes an act of madness, to do it solo is even more so. I´ve always been involved in solo creative processes, especially in a multi-instrumentalist way, I like what gets me out of the usual axes and paths. Today, I feel mature and easy enough to do it with the Double Bass solo.
It is music, mostly improvised, experimental, where I explore the sounds and voices of the double bass, tunings, timbres and some effects and loops, all created in real time.
In short, a risk!
Ensemble Super Moderne
With solid and recognized musical paths, eight musicians come together to explore different ways of narrating, improvise and interact musically. From a strong compositional component that can bring so many good influences as possible, Ensemble Moderne Super stands out for having no sound but several.
The concept of an aesthetic line as a unifying element of the project disappears, giving way to that Ensemble Moderne Super clearly identifies himself not to take advantage of any music in particular.

Sónia Pinto
Sónia Pinto was born in Porto, Portugal, and it was in her hometown that she began her singing studies, at the Porto Jazz School. She also took private jazz singing lessons and participated in several workshops, national and international. She studied with Fátima Serro (PT), Kiko Pereira (PT), Luciana Souza (Brasil/EUA), Fay Claassen (NL). Later she attended the Free Course of Jazz Singing of the Superior School of Music and Arts of Porto, E.S.M.A.E. Her vocal jazz performances began as a 4tet with Pedro Neves on piano, Hugo Carvalhais on double bass and Leandro Leonet on drums. A couple of years later, remaining faithful to the nuanced and minimalist approach she intends to print to the project, but wanting to take a step forward and enrich it, a fifth element started to play with them.
At this point the band changed and a 5tet started with Bruno Macedo bringing is amazing sounds on guitar and Miguel Ângelo took over the double bass. Sónia Pinto melts in perfection her strong musical personality with that of the accompanying group. Well-known for her deep unmistakable voice and emotional performances, she continues to appear all over in Jazz Clubs, Concert Halls, Casinos, specially in the north of the country.
Often called by the audience "bicho de palco" ("stage creature"), it is precisely there, on stage, that she feels like a fish in the water.

A VIOLA AMARANTINA
Rui Fernandes Quartet (2022)
The musician Rui Fernandes presents the double disc “A Viola Amarantina” as a tribute to this string instrument originally from Amarante and also called the viola of two hearts due to the two front openings in the shape of a heart.
The double disc offers two clear listening options: listen to all the songs solo, where Rui Fernandes exposes the sound of this instrument exploring it timbrally or listen in a quartet version for which arrangements were made for 9 compositions and the musicians invited: Pedro Neves , piano, Miguel Ângelo, double bass and Ricardo Coelho, percussion.
The final result is surprising and unique since this work opens a path that has never been done so far, where several styles and many influences intersect and where it is clear that Viola Amarantina, in addition to a “velvety” sound, has a extraordinary versatility and cannot and should not be “hostage” to the label attached to traditional music. It is a Portuguese viola to be useful to world music.

Carlos Peninha (2019)
Guitarist and composer, Carlos Peninha was born in Viseu in 1962. After three decades of artistic work in several areas, Peninha made his debut as a leader with the album Tocar o Chão, published in 2017, where he explored the song format in connection with Portuguese poetry. Now, on the second album, Ponto de Vista, Peninha invests in an admittedly jazzy project.
This new album Peninha (guitars and Rhodes) is accompanied by three of the most notable musicians of the current national jazz scene: João Mortágua on alto and soprano saxophones, Miguel Ângelo on contrabass and Marcos Cavaleiro on drums. There is also a guest, Luísa Vieira, who contributes with transversal flute and voice on two themes.
The music recorded here was composed by Peninha at different times, between 1987 and 2018, and the author states that "it intends to take a free approach, so that this record captures the spontaneity of a new reading". The disc reveals a set of compositions well served by collective involvement, producing solid work. Point of View can be heard on Bandcamp.
